Fire Breaks Out at Used Goods Stall in Kapuk

A fire broke out on Thursday (12/11) morning at the used goods stall on Jalan Tennis III, RT 05/14, Kapuk Urban Village, Cengkareng Sub-district, West Jakarta.

Firefighters arrived quickly and immediately put out the flames

West Jakarta Fire and Rescue Sub-agency (Gulkarmat) Head, Suheri said, his personnel received fire report at around 5:13 AM.

"We immediately deployed 24 fire engines and 70 firefighters to the scene," he expressed, Thursday (12/11).

Building Inspections in Jakarta Tightened to Prevent Fires

According to him, the fire extinguishing was temporarily hindered due to a pile of scrap materials. However, the firefighters managed to handle the fire at 7:26 AM.

"We're trying to control the situation so it doesn't spread to other buildings," he explained.

He added there were no fatalities or casualities in this incident.

"It was triggered by an electrical short-circuit," he explained.

One of the locals, Melani admitted that she saw flames emerging from a pile of scrap. She then shouted to wake the residents living nearby and tried to extinguish the fire with water.

"Fortunately, the firefighters arrived quickly and immediately put out the flames," she closed.
